Virtual try-on uses AI to show how a piece of clothing might look on you without a trip to a fitting room. It is a useful preview, and it helps to know what it can and cannot tell you.
How it works
You provide a photo of yourself and an image of the outfit or garment. The AI works out your pose and body outline, identifies the clothing in the second image, and generates a new picture with that clothing placed on you, adjusting for things like lighting and proportions.
What it is good for
- Checking whether a colour or style suits you.
- Comparing several outfits quickly before deciding what to buy.
- Seeing how pieces combine, for example whether a jacket works over a particular dress.
- Avoiding impulse buys that look good on a model but not on you.
What it cannot tell you
- Exact fit and size. A preview shows style, not whether a size will be tight across the shoulders.
- Fabric behaviour. Stretch, weight and drape are hard to judge from a generated image.
- Perfect realism. Hands, accessories and layered outfits can sometimes come out imperfect.
Get better results
- Use a clear, well-lit, full-body photo facing the camera.
- Wear fitted clothing in the photo so your shape is easy to read.
- Use a sharp image of the outfit with the garment fully visible.
- If a result looks off, try a different photo of yourself.

The short version
Treat virtual try-on as a fast style check. Use it to filter ideas, then rely on size charts and reviews for fit.
